12 items you shouldn’t keep in the refrigerator

Did you know that we should stop refrigerating a lot of foods? We are fully aware of how important modern refrigeration is to every kitchen and household. It greatly contributes to the quality and preservation of our food. But did you know that, contrary to popular belief, cooling some foods can actually alter their flavor? (not in a good way). Not the one, this. Even worse, it might lower their nutritional value or hasten the deterioration process. Here are some foods that we ought never to store in the refrigerator. Some of these are probably already in your refrigerator. Bread can be frozen without issue, but refrigeration speeds up the drying process. And the bread you end up eating is dry. Instead, freeze the remainder and only keep what you’ll consume within four days at room temperature. For a fresh slice, keep in a cool cupboard or bread box. It comes naturally to pile the freshly purchased herbs from the supermarket directly onto the refrigerator. But did you know that herbs wilt more quickly in the refrigerator? On your kitchen counter, you could put them in a glass jar with water in it to keep them crisp and fresh. It is best to store potatoes in paper bags because refrigeration degrades their flavor. Keep in mind that plastic bags encourage moisture and hasten the decay process. Fruits that should not be kept in the refrigerator include avocados, apples, bananas, citrus fruits, berries, peaches, apricots, and nectarines. These fruits will lose their flavors and textures if they are refrigerated. If you prefer a crisp bite, you can chill these fruits for 30 minutes before eating. On your kitchen counter, keep oranges, lemons, and limes at room temperature.
