It’s difficult to avoid certain foods, especially when they’re made to taste nice. But there’s a catch: a lot of the foods we’re taught we shouldn’t consume might not be as awful for us as we think. In fact, what you consider “bad” may be quite different from what someone else considers “bad.” For example, you might believe that dairy or gluten are bad for you because they give you an upset stomach or a headache when you eat them. “It’s critical to recognize that foods like dairy and wheat are frequent allergens, and some people have trouble tolerating them,” says Julie Andrews, M.S., R.D.N., a dietitian and nutrition consultant in Wisconsin. “However, this does not imply that they are harmful to everyone.”
While each person’s body and meals that they may respond to are unique, there are some foods that are still recommended avoiding in general. We’re talking about foods that either don’t provide much nutritious value to your body or, in the worst-case scenario, actually put your health at risk.
