Benefits of beetroot and who should avoid it

The red portion of the beet plant, beetroot, has been consumed since antiquity, and for good reason. The prehistoric root vegetable is native to the coasts of North Africa, Europe, and Asia. The dish, however, has gained worldwide popularity due to its sweet flavor and numerous health benefits. Beets contain nitrates, which aid in the production of nitric oxide in our bodies. Nitric oxide, a naturally occurring gas, causes our blood vessels to dilate, allowing more blood to flow and lowering blood pressure.
According to studies, drinking one glass of beet juice (or eating the same amount) lowers systolic blood pressure by 4-5 millimeters of mercury. As a result, beetroot is an excellent supplement for preventing and treating certain cardiovascular diseases. Another advantage of beetroot is its high nitrate content, which has been linked to increased muscle power, particularly in the heart. According to a study published in Circulation: Heart Failure, drinking a glass of beetroot juice increased muscle power in patients with heart failure. While more research is needed, preliminary research suggests that one of beetroot’s health benefits may be a reduction in malignant cells. There hasn’t been much research on this yet, but a few studies have shown promise. In animal studies, the betalain pigments in beetroot were shown to reduce tumor cells, and another human cell study showed the same effect when used against breast and prostate cancer cells.
