Bewketu Seyoum entertaining audiences in America

Bewketu Seyoum is a poet and writer from Ethiopia’s Debre Markos region. He studied psychology at Addis Ababa University and published Nwari Alba Gojowoch (Unmanned Cottage), his first collection of poems, a year after graduation. He’s produced two more poetry collections and two novels since then, as well as narrated short stories on CD. He was awarded Ethiopia’s finest young writer prize by the President in 2008. Modern Poems in Translation, The Big Green Issue (2008), and Callaloo have all published some of his poetry (2011).

He is widely regarded as one of the leading poets of his generation and is well-known for his humor writing and comedic performance, having been named Ethiopian Best Novelist of the Year in 2008 and Best Young Author in 2009.
