Bewketu talks about why he doesn’t eat meat

Bewketu Seyoum is an Ethiopian poet and writer who hails from the Debre Markos region. He studied psychology at Addis Ababa University and released his first book of poems, Nwari Alba Gojowoch (Unmanned Cottage), a year after graduation. Since then, he’s published two more poetry collections, two novels, and narrated short stories on CD. In 2008, the President of Ethiopia awarded him the Award for best young writer in Ethiopia. Some of his work has been published in Modern Poems in Translation, The Big Green Issue (2008), and Callaloo (2011). He has been selected Ethiopian Best Novelist of the Year in 2008 and Best Young Author in 2009. He is widely regarded as one of the best poets of his generation and is well-known for his humor writing and humorous performance. He is widely considered as one of the most important poets of his time, as well as a comic writer and performer, having been awarded Ethiopian Best Novelist of the Year in 2008. He has seven Amharic works, spanning short story collections, essays, poetry, and novels.
