All people aspire to be singers. Everyone aspires to stardom. But I’m usually shocked to learn that some of these same people have never performed with a band, gone on stage, or sang in public. Enjoying singing is one thing, but loving it and feeling confident enough to perform in front of others is quite another. There is no substitute for giving a live performance in front of an audience. Here is where you can truly start to learn how to read your audience, assess your performance, identify areas for improvement, and determine what works and what doesn’t. Studying other bands and singers is one of the finest methods to figure out how to be a great performer. You can evaluate someone’s performance by the way they make you feel, as well as by the way they appear, sound, move, and speak. It’s a positive sign if you felt your attendance there was valuable when you left. Have you ever felt defrauded after purchasing a ticket to a concert or live performance? It’s possible that the band was uninteresting, did not engage with the crowd at all, sounded awful, or was difficult to hear since the drums and bass overpowered the vocals.
