Tsinat and her companions Everyone is present. All of us need some time to “find our feet.” Parents frequently remark things like, “Why don’t you apply for this job” or “Pick a course you think you’ll like.” Parents must realize that while it may appear they are guiding their children in the right path, we all need time and space to figure out what we genuinely want to do with our lives. For instance, not everyone is cut out for university; getting appropriate work experience and/or starting an apprenticeship might be just as helpful in identifying a career that you would enjoy. Teaching kids that developing new abilities and skills is a part of life is the key to this situation. How many of us are working in the fields we anticipated when we were 18? Take the heat off of them by telling them it’s acceptable if they aren’t sure what they want to do just yet; the key thing is to be proactive in finding their way. We can only make decisions based on what we know about ourselves at the time. At MidKent College, we think that regardless of the path taken, any student can accomplish their goals. The three essential principles of self-belief, resilience, and discipline are what parents should instill in their children so they can succeed in their jobs. Our kids can succeed in any field they choose if they cultivate these three talents over time. The biggest gift a parent can give their children is the mindset to overcome obstacles and move on. Parents need to draw on their own experience with these three abilities to teach their children that it won’t be a straight path, that there will be many bumps in the road and moments of low motivation.
