Traditional dance competition between Jacky Gosee and Indy Jay

Dancing is an important part of African culture and expression. It’s a popular choice for weddings and holiday gatherings. The pillars of social gatherings are food and dance. The bulk of African dances feature lower-body or entire-body movements. Ethiopia is home to over 80 ethnic groups, each with their own dance and music traditions. Eskista is an Ethiopian dance that is unique. Eskista is a traditional Ethiopian dance from the Amhara region, performed by both men and women in a group. The dance involves rolling the shoulder blades, bouncing the shoulders, and jilting the chest. It’s usually set to traditional Ethiopian music, which includes the krar, flute, drums, and masinqo, among other instruments. Eskista, like all African dances, is a common sight at weddings, holiday festivities, and gatherings. It is not rare for the best dancer to be awarded money. The money is permanently attached to the dancer’s head.
