Self-care falls into a few different categories. It usually affects the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual domains. Whatever makes you happy or floats your boat could be considered self-care. Anything that gives you a sense of support, even if it’s just self-care. Mental Self-Treatment. This covers everything that promotes relaxation and allows you to take time to unwind. Self-talk, weekly bubble baths, and saying “no” to activities that bring on needless stress are a few examples. It could be as simple as scheduling a weekly coffee date with a buddy or allowing yourself to take a break. Maybe it’s reading a book outside in the garden or lighting some candles and listening to your favorite music. This could entail adopting healthy sleep hygiene and making sleep a priority. It could be picking wholesome foods over highly processed ones or starting an exercise regimen you can maintain. Spiritual self-care can be as simple as practicing meditation, going on regular acts of kindness throughout your day, or even spending time in nature. Some choose to maintain a gratitude notebook; if you follow an established religion, this may also include going to a ceremony or service. Self-care for one’s mind is equally very important. It can involve engaging in mentally stimulating activities, such as picking up a new language or studying an intriguing subject.
