Getting over a separation is never easy, but when there are children involved, things become even more challenging. Sometimes it appears that the family has entered a never-ending spiral or vicious circle. Divorce entails not only separating the couple, but also beginning to discuss as parents what is best for the children. When a separation occurs, issues or pathologies do not necessarily manifest; however, if the break-up is not handled properly, this can be one of the causes. Separating from your partner was practically impossible a few years ago, but it is becoming more common these days. Approximately half of couples divorce up. Some unfamiliar terms include child custody, alimony, and divorce by mutual agreement. These are concerns that should be considered; just because a marriage or relationship has ended does not imply that parents have separated. When children are involved, communication between parents will be required. It’s okay to feel furious at first and play the “you more” game. Any minor detail can spark a fierce war. It is worthwhile to try to see the issue objectively rather than allowing emotions to take control.
