The last princess of Ethiopia…in America

Princess Liya Imru, also known as Lissan, is one of the last surviving members of Ethiopia’s imperial family. Born in 1933, she is the granddaughter of Emperor Haile Selassie I and the daughter of Imru Haile Selassie, directly linking her to the ancient Solomonic dynasty. Her life has been shaped by the significant political upheavals in Ethiopia, including the fall of the monarchy in 1974 and the subsequent persecution of the imperial family. During this period, Lissan faced imprisonment and endured many hardships. Despite these challenges, Princess Lissan remains a symbol of Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage. She has been actively involved in efforts to preserve the legacy of the Ethiopian monarchy. Living a relatively low-profile life today, she occasionally makes public appearances and gives interviews that reflect on her experiences and the history of her family. Her story is one of resilience and dedication to maintaining the cultural and historical traditions of Ethiopia.
