June 1, 2025, Addis Ababa (ENA) — Ethiopia’s Hasset Dereje Admassu made history at the 72nd Miss World pageant by placing as the first runner-up in the world-renowned beauty and purpose contest. At the end of the event, which took place at Hyderabad, India’s HITEX Exhibition Centre, Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri was proclaimed Miss World 2025. Hasset received tremendous acclaim throughout Ethiopia and the African continent for her second-place performance, which is the highest placing ever achieved by an Ethiopian contender in Miss World history. Hasset, a public health graduate and ardent supporter of women’s health and education, distinguished herself on and off the stage as an Ethiopian. Judges and viewers alike were fascinated by her “Beauty With a Purpose” project, which concentrated on maternal health and girls’ education in rural regions. “Just by standing here, I am able to provide so much for the mothers and children behind me.” Her sincere answer received thunderous applause and eventually guaranteed her a spot among the top finalists. For Ethiopian and African presence in international pageantry, Hasset’s placement is seen as a major turning point. Her performance emphasized the value of advocacy, content, and cultural pride in international beauty pageants. Ethiopians reacted with great joy, with media outlets, national officials, and members of civil society praising her as an inspiration.
